Wondering why your profile got rejected for a position?
You sent your resume to one of the best headhunter / consultant for a globally respected company but it did not land you an interview, leave alone an offer !
Wondering what happened, read on....
The process of resumes being screened & shortlisted has gone a drastic change in the last 5 years. The hiring volumes have become multi fold & the time spent by recruiters & CV screeners is reducing by the day.
A decade back a sourcing executive would spend 20-30 minutes in trying to understand a Job Description & then spend hours to screen a dozen profiles before processing 4-5 profiles for a suitable opening.
The client was happy to see 4-5 profiles per position & the interviews would last for a while before taking a final call. The availability of the talent pool was less & clients were ready to hire people who were scalable & whose skills were matching even 40-50% to the vacant position.
Welcome back to 2015!
Today the volumes of hiring have gone up beyond imagination as compared to what it was a decade back. This rise has affected the quality of time spent by the sourcing professional, the screening person & the interview panel on the entire hiring process.
Today everyone wants the process to be automated OR wants minimal human interference in the process – RESULT – resumes are being sourced based on keywords – resumes are being screened based on keywords – interview panels are also having less time to spend with the candidate to understand his skills/ his strengths/ scalability etc.
All these result in a Good candidate's resume not even reaching the interview stage most of the times!
What to do: As a jobseeker one should highlight all his/her skills that he/she is proficient in, give details of projects in a more elaborate way.
Think like a Screener / Sourcing Exec – Put in all the keywords that could be related your current work profile.
Ensure that while the Resume is crisp it should be having all details possible.
Don't be in a myth that an intelligent person will understand the resume – the person sourcing / screening has targets of numbers & is under pressure to give numbers, doing this he/she might not process your profile if keywords in his/her Job Description are not matching to highlighted keywords in your Profile.
Solution : Write your Resume well with all possible keywords & get better interview calls!
Good Luck !
